Friday News - September 14

Thank you for coming to Back-to-School Night on Tuesday.  Your support and interest is always appreciated…and great news…the Kindergarten class is having a pizza party because we had the best parent attendance!!!  That is being planned for next Friday as our lunch time so we will enjoy our pizza and goodies in the classroom that day!  I will remind you of this special happening next week!!!

Letters: Tt as heard at the beginning of turtle, train and top
Sight Word:  the
I hope you are listening as your child reads his predecodable books that he brings home every week.  They are pretty simple right now, but words will continue to be added as we learn more and more about putting letters together and forming words.  Save them, review them and watch how they build upon each other!!  Sorry they are only in black and white-we read the colorful version at school!
Math:  patterning, graphing, reviewing shapes, practice writing numbers 3 and 4.
Religion:  men of faith - Noah and Abraham!

We have spent some time this week talking about our five senses and we will complete that next week with tasting and smelling!

APPLE Unit: We then begin our APPLE unit!  On Tuesday, Sept. 25 I would like to do some apple tasting, comparing and graphing so I am asking each child to bring in an apple that day-I am hoping for a good variety so if you can please try to bring in an apple that is a little unusual-this may mean a trip to Fresh Market or Whole Foods (but only if you have the time and would like to do this).  Please place the apple in a bag and have your child bring it in his backpack to keep it safe (might be a good idea to write on a slip of paper what variety the apple is-just in case I cannot figure it out)!!  Thanks, I always have a lot of fun with our apple unit!!  I could use some apple seeds for a project, so if you happen to be eating apples just pluck out the seeds and send them to school by next Friday!

NATURE CLUB: (joint and exclusive members are “K” and 1st grade) has had two meetings.  Last week our school nurse, Mrs. Barker, talked to us about bees and beekeeping-it was too cool.  Today we asked the question “What is nature?” and had a special activity with that.  Next Friday we will be studying seeds-please feel free have your child bring in a couple of Ziploc bags with a few seeds-be sure to label-please do not go out and buy special packages for this purpose. Check your own foods and flowers or grandma and grandpa always have everything!!

Snack Days:
  • Mon.     Christopher
  • Wed.      Edward
  • Friday     Hamilton
Thanks so much for your help!!
