Kindergarten Korner

What a great trip to the Fire Station!  Hopefully the children learned as much as their teacher did!  Does your family have a meeting place in case of a fire??  That was each child’s homework given to them by the firefighters!!!  A special thank you to our wonderful drivers!!!

RELIGION: All about a boy named David!

READING: A new vowel is being added-Ii-as heard at the beginning of inchworm, igloo and itty bitty! The _it word family will be featured!! No homework for the week!
           
MATH-You will find us continuing to work on counting money up to 10¢ using our pennies!  We will work on copying AB and ABB patterns as well as making up our own!  Our new learning will be comparing objects by weight using our balance scale (terms heavier/lighter will be used).

Social Studies-The children are trekking through Kenya!

SCIENCE-Daytime/Nighttime will be talked about!  What’s in the daytime and nighttime sky…how do they move??
   Nature Club-Terrific turkeys-wild turkeys discussed-what they eat, what they need to survive, and their predators!!

Remember -KINDERGARTEN WILL ENJOY THEIR FREE TAG DAY next THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14!!

Christmas is coming…the goose is getting fat…Kindergarten will have a class gift exchange during the Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 20.  The girls are asked bring a gift for girl and the boys will each bring a boy gift before the day of the party.  So you might start thinking about this -but please do not spend more than $5.00 on this gift.  We will also have a gift exchange with our chapel buds during the week of Dec. 16 (still to be scheduled)-so you might be thinking about a gift for your child’s eighth grade buddy-gift cards are usually  a good idea-also no more than $5.oo!  More details will follow as the time gets closer to Christmas!

Kindergarten Korner

A little craziness is always good (Red Ribbon Day, Halloween), but I am looking forward to a week of the normal routine!  Well, almost routine...there is the field trip, but of great value to the children!

 ****GOOD NEWS: THINGS SEEM TO BE RETURNING TO NORMAL…MORNING DROP-OFF/AFTERNOON PICKUP WILL MOVE BACK TO THE GYM PARKING LOT BEGINNING NEXT WEEK!****

RELIGION: The stories of Hannah, Samuel and King Saul will be shared with the children!

READING: New letters-Gg as heard at the beginning of green, glue and gate (not the gym/giraffe sound)!  And Ff- the fish, fence and face sound!  Homework alert!!  New sight words will be: On, on; To, to!
           
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming next week November 4th-8th!  Come and do some of your Christmas shopping and help Christ Lutheran School at the same time. Check out the info placed in your child’s folder for ALL the details!!!
 
MATH-We will be looking at a number line from 0-10 and talking about what comes before, after and between numbers!!  Now that we recognize a penny we will use our pennies to count up to 10¢, write money amounts up to 10¢ and order money to 10¢!  We will play a game, “What Shape Doesn’t Belong?”  More problem solving-act it out, draw it out!!  Busy math week!

Social Studies-Leaving Germany and heading to Kenya…talk about a change of scenery!!

SCIENCE- We didn’t get our squirrels and chipmunks completed last week...so we will enjoy those interesting creature during the week ahead!

Field Trip to Central Fire Station- next Thursday, November 7-leaving school at 9:15 and returning about 11:15. We would like the children to wear their blue CLS spirit shirts for the day!  Remember to send your child’s booster seat before school that morning and place in hallway outside our classroom-thanks!

 KINDERGARTEN WILL ENJOY THEIR FREE TAG DAY ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14!!

FALL BACK:  Remember to turn your clock back one hour this Saturday night!  You get that hour back that you lost last spring!!!  And you want to be on time for church and Sunday school!

Kindergarten Korner

Thank you for coming last night for an evening of fun as we “Read through the Seasons”!  The teachers enjoyed the opportunity to share the fun of reading with each family.  Be sure to read with your child each and every day…it opens so many doors in your family relationships!!

RELIGION: A study of the 3rd commandment! Woman of faith-Ruth will be studied!

READING: A review of –am, -ap, and –at words!  We will also do some writing with the help of our sight words!
           
            The Scholastic Book Fair is coming-the week of November 4th-be watching for details and the opportunity to purchase books for your child, nieces and nephews (great Christmas gifts). 
 
MATH-Matrix puzzle time again with our fun game “what’s the missing piece”.  We will use our pennies to act out some story problems.  Review time –ordinal positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th).  And new concept-telling time on the hour!!!

Social Studies-Still tromping around in the wonderful country of Germany (my roots are planted there)!

SCIENCE- Fun loving creature-squirrels and chipmunks will be a focus!
            Garden News: Between seasons right now-future plans include planting some bulbs for spring flowers!!     After the fall season if you have some uncarved pumpkins that you wish to dispose of-send them our way as we have an empty bed that we would like to “toss” them into-watching them rot and seeing what happens next spring…could we get new plants from those seeds in the pile???

Red Ribbon Day-next Thursday, October 31-Be a “jean-ius” and Be Drug Free-Wear your jeans with a red shirt!  Decorate a hat in red to wear throughout the day-win a prize!!  The “K” children will be coloring a picture here at school to be entered in a coloring contest!  And remember to “Take a Slice out of Drugs” by ordering pizza for lunch-order must be in by Tuesday, Oct. 29.  We will attend a “Drug Free” assembly in the afternoon! What a great day!!

 KINDERGARTEN HAS WON A FREE TAG DAY!  I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THAT DAY IS AS SOON AS I GET THE WORD FROM MISS GUELZOW!

Kindergarten Korner

We’ve certainly been enjoying this beautiful fall weather!   We are looking forward to watching the leaves as they turn into their vibrant colors-yellow, red and orange!!

RELIGION: The kindergarten/first grade children would love to see you at chapel this coming Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 8:15 a.m. as we deliver our message of “JOY, PEACE, HOPE”!!

READING: New letters being introduced –Dd as heard at the beginning of dinosaur, dog and dad and Nn-for nose, needle and napkin! That means homework after a two week hiatus (you know it would return)!  New sight words are We, we, and Go, go!  So let’s get going!!

            “Reading through the Seasons” Family Fun Night event-Thursday, October 24-The Fellowship Hall will be open at 5:00 if you want to bring your own dinner and eat before the big event which begins in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 with an introduction of the evening activities.  It’s all about the fun of reading!  Come and join us!

MATH-We are having fun with our “What’s Missing” game…numbers 0-10 are spread out-one child hides his eyes while another removes one number, the child uncovers eyes and tries to guess “what’s missing”-game continues with children taking turns-it’s great fun!  It will get harder during the year with more numbers added!  Also NUMDER BINGO will be introduced!  We love numbers!!

Social Studies-We are headed to Europe-Germany, to be exact! 

SCIENCE- Pumpkins…Squirrels…Bats…Owls are all in our future in the coming weeks!
        GARDEN NEWS-How about some lettuce/radish salad???? It’s happening!!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Friday, October 18!  You received a memo from the school office with the procedure to follow for making your appointment online!!  If you prefer to meet with me another day please email me or send me a note and I’ll gladly work out another day to meet!

Field Trip –Hot off the press---K/1 will be going to the Central Fire House located downtown on Thursday, November 7-leaving school at 9:15 and returning about 11:15.  Drivers will be needed.—email me if you are interested!  More info coming soon!!!

Boxtops and Labels-When sending to school please be sure to place them in a bag and label with “Kindergarten” so that our class gets the credit!  Last year kindergarten won an ice cream party-sure would be great to do that again, right?!!

Kindergarten Korner

Wow, it is October and I can see that it is going to be a very busy month!

RELIGION: The Children of Israel have crossed the Red Sea and are wandering in the wilderness!!  And they will be there for a little while, especially while K and 1 are preparing for their chapel service which is on Wednesday, October 16!!  You are very welcome to join us as we lead the worship that morning-8:15 a.m. 

READING: We are enjoying our first vowel, Aa, and will be focusing on  -at words like mat, cat, rat and several others.  We will get out our desk white boards and letter cards to write many of these words-the kids have a great time with these activities.  I believe they surprised themselves this past week by sounding out - am words!  We are also listening for syllables in words, playing “What’s the Word” by taking apart sounds in a word to discover what it is when put all together!  We have been looking for “action words” (doing words) in stories!  I see “bread” in our future after reading the books Peanut Butter and Jelly and Hold the Anchovies ask your child about them!!!

MATH-Making AB patterns using our body (clap, snap clap, snap; touch head, touch knees, head, knees and similar movements).  We will have sorting practice by using buttons-sorting them by color, size, shape, number of holes, etc).  We will order number 0-10 and play of game, “What’s Missing”!   Numbers 5 and 6 will be practiced!

Social Studies-We have left Australia and are home washing our laundry as we prepare to leave for Europe.  Next week we will talk about the famous explorer, Christopher Columbus!


SCIENCE- You can help me by sending in some fresh green leaves on Wednesday/Thursday for a leaf project we will be doing!
        GARDEN NEWS-Next week we will be weeding our garden boxes and picking a few radishes to see if they are about ready!!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Friday, October 18-These may be scheduled by going online-watch for more information!   If you prefer to meet with me on an alternate date-please email me as I would be glad to meet with you on another day-after school on a Wednesday or a Thursday or an early a.m. before school.  Make me an offer and I’ll see what I can do!
